Denison Coach’s Blog Off Season 5
The Denison Yellowjackets are in the middle of the off-season as the school year comes to a close. The team is preparing for the upcoming 2017 season with weight room work and specialized football work.
What types of things are you doing in the off season as football work at this point in the year?

“We are doing a lot of passing stuff; we are getting ready for 7x7 in June and working on our offense for the fall. We are testing their strength, too. I feel really good where they are right now.”
What else are you doing at this end of year phase?
“We are working a lot with the middle school kids; and getting them ready to some to the high school. The varsity works with them, too.”
How do you feel at this point in the school year?
“I’m excited about the season coming up; we are throwing the ball well. I like that. We’ve done strength and conditioning earlier; and now it’s time to put in that extra conditioning work in the summer.”
What about senior Austin Emery, your starting quarterback?
“He’s looking good; he’s throwing well after his injury. I think he’ll be ready.”
How does the offense and defense look at this point?
“They both look good; kids are running to the ball. They are retaining what we are teaching them. Our numbers are good, too.”
How many are in the program?
“We have about 180 total, but we have a small senior class—only 18 players. We have 60 each in the ninth and tenth grades.”
What about the overall team?
“I expect us to be good; we’ll see how the summer goes, but we’re athletic. Our non-district games will show our weaknesses and we will fix them. It’s a tough district, but we’re strong as a whole.”
What do you think about next season at this point in May?
“I think it will be a challenge, but I’m excited to get it going. We have a good football team coming back.”
How does it look?
“We have the same district as last year; our first game is Trinity Christian Academy. They always play us tough. We are looking forward to the UIL splitting divisions for Class 5A in 2018.”
When is the first day of practice for the fall?
“We start Aug. 7 and have Meet the Jackets on Aug. 12.”
