Sherman Coach's Blog 9 2016

Sherman Coach’s Blog 10 2016 The Sherman Bearcats lost a close game to Denison in the annual “Battle of the Axe” last Friday, 35-30. They finish the season at 4-6 and were in the playoff hunt until the end. How do you feel the team did in this rivalry game? “We competed very well; we just came up short. We had a chance to win until the very last play.” How did the offense do? “They played well; we scored 30 points. They got us in position to be successful. They never quit; I’m happy with their effort.” What about quarterback David Bedgood (a senior in his last game)? “He played really well; he put us in a position to win on the last play. He was great as our leader.” What about the other players on offense? “They all stepped up; our running backs did great. Our receivers had over 200 yards and made some key blocks.” And the defense? “They made adjustments early; they played well, too. They got banged up with Brayshon Savage out, but we loosed up. We just got wore down with so many players going both ways.” What about your special teams play? “They did pretty good; Pedro had a field goal and had some key punts. I was pretty happy with their performance.” What about coaching in your first BOTA game? “I was surprised how draining it is; I was really tired afterwards. I didn’t realize it. Man, it was something else. It is a great atmosphere; a great tradition. It is special to me.” How do you feel about your first year at the helm as head coach of SHS? “We were 4-6; not as good as I would have liked, but from where we started and where we finished……….I think we made strides. Our seniors set the standard; and there is no doubt that Sherman football is on the rise.”
