Denison Coach's Blog 2 2016

By: Coach Chad Rogers
Denison Coach’s Blog 2 2016 Denison lost a close one 63-61 to Trinity Christian Academy last week. The Jackets lost a fumble as they were driving for a winning score in the last minute of the game. They look to get back on track this week against Frisco High School. Overall, how did you think the team played? “I think the kids played pretty well. We are getting better; we’ve got to tackle somewhat better. Our special teams were good; and the effort was there.” What about that score? “We certainly didn’t expect that. I mean, we scored 61 and lost! We knew they were good, but both teams went for it.” How did your offense do? “Even with all those points, we could have done better. We gave good effort. The O-Line did well; and Tre Lyday was great (318 yards on 40 carries). “ What about the defense? “We forced four turnovers, but we gave up too many points. Again, the effort was there. We’ve got to tackle better.” What about your kicking game? “We played well; Kahlil Finley had a kick-off return for a touchdown; that’s always good.” You play Frisco High School in the home opener Friday. What type of team do they have? “They have some outstanding offensive and defensive linemen. They have two offensive linemen who have committed to Texas Tech. They run the ball well; they only threw four passes last week in their game. So, we are needing to hit them at the point of attack.” “They are physical; so, we have to be, too. They have a good defense; how we respond to a new type of offense will be the key.” How is the attitude of the team this week after such a game as last week’s? “I like their attitude; we’ve had some good practices. They are focused and we all expect a great year.” Any other activity in the DHS Athletic Department? “Yes, Our volleyball team is ranked 15th in the state this week. They just won the Whitesboro Tournament. We are proud of them.” This first home game includes Senior Recognition Night for the Yellowjackets. The game will be at 7 p.m. to align with the district games. The away Abilene Wylie game will be at 7:30 p.m. due to travel issues.
