Denison Coach’s Blog 2

Coach Chad Rogers is in the second week of Yellow Jackets football practice. He previews the upcoming scrimmage Friday and how practice is going.

In this second week of practice, what things are the Yellow Jackets doing?

“We are getting better; we are working on technique and communication. We are gets our movements down. Practice is going well.”

You are now in full pads for all practices. How is that going and how is it different?

“It is going very good; the kids carry their pads well. They are ready to hit someone else. Of course, there’s more ‘pop’ in practice and people are getting into full speed.”

Perennial power Graham is your opponent for Friday’s scrimmage at their stadium. What type of team is Graham?

“Graham has gone 28-2 the last two years. They have several Division I (college) kids; two have already committed. It will be a great measuring stick for us.”

What do you hope to get out of the scrimmage?

“We want to get some good stuff on video. And they run the spread offense, which we will see a lot in our district.”

What do you want to see out of your team?

“I want to see them move faster and be better than in practice.”

What about your home scrimmage (Aug. 22) against Wichita Falls Rider?

“They are a good team; they always go deep into the playoffs. They have a new coach who is good at developing players. They have a great attitude and will be ready to go.”

How did “Meet the Jackets” go last Saturday?

“It went well; it was good to see so much support early in the year.”

NOTE: The Graham Scrimmage will begin with the freshmen at 5 p.m.; then the JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. The Wichita Falls Rider scrimmage times have not been set, but will be similar.
