The Denison Yellowjackets got back to their winning ways with a 45-20 victory over Princeton last week. The Jackets are 3-2, 2-1 and halfway through the season already!
Overall, how was the game against Princeton?
“We had a great third quarter (three touchdowns); the defense got five turnovers in the game, too. We played well when the pressure was on.”
How did quarterback Cade Gordy do?
“He did a good job for us; things got going fast, but he settled down. I’ve always said he’s tough as nails.”
What about the offense?
“We had over 100 plays with 75 rushes; and Zalen Whimbish had two long receptions. We blocked well; our backs had more than 300 yards rushing.”
What about the passing game?
“The passing game worked a lot better; we got going this week.”
What about the defense overall?
“We got going in the second quarter; we played really well. Princeton is not a bad team (its first year in Class 5A). It was a challenge for us.”
What about your next opponent Friday: Lake Dallas?
“They are a lot like us; a very good football team. They run the ball; have a big defense; and they have a lot of senior leadership. They went two or three rounds deep in the playoffs last season.”
What will you have to do to win?
“We will have to stay on blocks; run the ball and play the field to our advantage. On defense, we have to run to the ball and be physical especially early on.”
How does this game look at this point in the season?
“We have a bye week after it, so we want to win going into the open date. The season is going by fast; we go week to week and see how we stack up. We will be ready.”
